Review

We once again get some great alternative covers with this issue, and my favorite has to be Cover B by Amanda Conner. Have to love Eliza just totally tired of the anti-gargoyle BS. Love the nod to Grey Weisman on the missing persons bulletin too!

Gargoyles issue #4 kicks off with a monologue by everyone's favorite leader of the Manhattan Clan, Goliath. Once again, I am thankful we get to enjoy a complete page dedicated to Goliath and Eliza’s relationship as Goliath talks about their differences in a poetic way reminiscent of his cartoon counterpart. Again, great continuity of his character.

The Dracon crime family gets another of its members out of prison, and Dino Dracon doesn’t sound like he's going to be playing around. We also see a familiar silhouette which teases us that another character may be making an appearance in this comic soon.

It's also nice to see the reopening of the NYPD’s Twenty-Third Precinct, which fans of the show will remember was destroyed in the second season's finale. A nice touch to again remind us just when this story is taking place.

One of my favorite things about this issue is we finally get to see Hudson and Goliath talk together about the ever expanding gap between the Trio, and the guidance and clarity Hudson still provides Goliath. I always loved the master and student relationship between Hudson and Goliath from the cartoon series. Several people tried to underplay Hudson’s strength because he was older and even relied on a sword unlike other gargoyles, but Goliath never thinks of Hudson as anything less than a great and wise warrior in his own right and often looks to him for counsel on matters.

The end of this issue ramps up the excitement as some masked gunmen start some trouble. I’ll be on the edge of my seat until the next volume is released later this month!

Out of all four issues thus far, this one was my favorite. I’m a little biased, with Goliath and Hudson being my favorites of the Gargoyle clan. As always, I’m looking forward to reading the next issue of this series!
